Maxxis Ikon 2.4 MaxxSpeed
Lightweight XC tire with predictable grip and low rolling resistance.

Why I Like It
The Ikon is my go-to for gnarly, chunky XC courses — especially if there’s loose rock, wet terrain, or just an overall high chance of chaos. It’s one of the most confidence-inspiring XC tires I’ve used. When braking hard or diving into corners, this tire just behaves.
It’s fast, too. Lower rolling resistance than you’d expect for something that grips this well.
Quick Specs
- 2.4” width (2.35” linked, 2.4” preferred but harder to find)
- 835 grams
- MaxxSpeed compound
- Durable casing
- Predictable traction
In My Setup
- I run the Ikon front and rear for technical courses where things could get spicy — wet, rocky, or rooty.
- It’s also my preferred front tire with a Rekon Race or Aspen in the rear when the course demands both traction and speed.
- Tire pressures: I rely on the SILCA Tire Pressure Calculator to fine-tune. I usually run 12f/13r on smoother courses, 16f/18r for sharp, chunky terrain — always with Vittoria Airliners.
- I’d love to try the 2.6” version on a loose, wet course if frame clearance allowed — it’s a beast.
- Ikon/Ikon is one of my most-used setups on twisty, technical Texas trails.
Who It’s For
Anyone racing or training on technical, high-consequence courses where a fall could mean game over — but you still want low rolling resistance. The Ikon gives you the grip and control to ride aggressively, descend with confidence, and stay smooth when the trail turns rowdy.

- I’ve put a ton of miles on these and can’t remember ever flatting one — seriously.
- These wear extremely well and hold up to the rigors of long races and back-to-back trail days.
