Why I like them

These are the only headphones I trust on the bike. The SHOKZ OpenRun Pro 2 use bone conduction tech, which means they don’t block your ears — so you can still hear trail traffic, approaching riders, tires on dirt, and your drivetrain… all while listening to music, podcasts, or even taking a call mid-ride.

They’re light, stay in place perfectly under a helmet, and are so comfortable you forget they’re there. I’ll leave them off on fast or technical descents, but for long climbs or mellow sections, they’re great for keeping the vibes high and the miles ticking by.

Quick Specs

  • Bone conduction audio keeps ears open to surroundings
  • Secure, helmet-friendly fit
  • 10-hour battery life with fast USB-C charging
  • Built-in mic and playback controls
  • Sweat and weather-resistant

In My Setup

  • I use them for everything: training, recovery rides, warmups, race mornings.
  • Backcountry logo Giro Aries helmet ↗️ goes on first, SHOKZ go on second — never had a fit issue.
  • Sound is clear enough for music and calls — not studio quality, but that’s not the point of going bone conduction.
  • Mic works fine for mid-ride calls unless you’re flying downhill or it’s super windy.
  • One pair had a speaker go out — SHOKZ support replaced them fast, no hassle.

Who It’s For

Riders who want to stay connected and stay safe. These are perfect if you listen while riding but still want full awareness of your environment. You’ll never be that person who forces the rider behind them to yell “ON YOUR LEFT!” three times before finally getting through.

Notes

  • Expect wind noise at high speed — not ideal for ripping descents.
  • If you’re after bass-heavy or audiophile sound, look elsewhere.
  • Charges fast enough to top up while you fill bottles and throw on shoes.
  • Pro tip: if you like to chat mid-ride, these make it way easier to take a call without stopping.
