Everyday Riding with Specialized

RaceDaySetup is usually about XC race setups — tires, suspension tweaks, and everything that helps me go faster on race day. But bikes for me extend well beyond my race-bred Epic 8 — I often get asked about e-bikes for commuting, errands, and casual tours.

Since I’m on my second Specialized Globe Haul (the first one got stolen 😕) and use it daily for school runs and family rides, I wanted to share what I’ve learned — plus a few Specialized e-bike options I’d recommend for everyday riders.

1. My Daily Ride: The Globe Haul LT

Specialized Turbo Como

My first Globe was the ST (short-tail) and I now have the LT (long-tail) which has been awesome after having a second kiddo. I rely on the Globe Haul LT as my everyday workhorse. It’s a stable platform that’s very customizable and has a serious load capacity — perfect for school runs, errands, and towing two kids.

The double Yepp seat setup transforms it into a family cruiser. Most days we’re hauling both kids with one of us on the Haul and the other following on a Sirrus. It’s a bike that keeps daily life moving — and I couldn’t imagine being without it.

2. Specialized E-Bike Picks for Everyday Riders

For casual riders, upright geometry, stability, and low-maintenance matter most. Beyond the Globe Haul that I ride daily, Specialized has three other e-bikes in their everyday lineup worth a close look.

I haven’t personally owned these three, but here’s how Specialized positions them — and what makes each one appealing depending on how you plan to ride.

Turbo Como — City Comfort

Specialized Turbo Como

The Como is Specialized’s pure comfort e-bike. With a super-low step-through frame, swept-back bars, and upright riding position, it’s designed to feel more like a cruiser than a commuter. The wide tires soak up cracks and curbs, and the smooth 250W motor keeps you rolling steadily. Battery runtime is rated at about 4.5 hours — plenty for errands, school runs, and mellow neighborhood rides.

Why pick the Como? If you want maximum comfort, confidence, and the easiest on/off step-through design, this is it.

Turbo Vado — Light & Nimble

Specialized Turbo Vado SL

The Vado is the “fitness commuter” of the lineup. At just over 30 lbs, it’s much lighter than most e-bikes, which will make it feel closer to a traditional bike. It has a punchier 320W motor and it delivers up to 5 hours of ride time per charge. Easy to carry upstairs, hang on a wall rack, or zip across town — things many e-bikes make a pain.

Why pick the Vado? If you want an e-bike that still feels like a regular bike, or if weight and efficiency matter more than max load capacity, this is the standout choice.

Turbo Tero — Versatile Adventurer

Specialized Turbo Tero X

Care to rip some singletrack on the way to grocery store? This thing even has a dropper post!

The Tero is a bit like the SUV of the bunch. Upright geometry, wide tires, and suspension make it comfortable on everything from broken pavement to gravel roads and mellow trails. The 250W motor balances smooth assist with solid torque, and battery runtime is rated at about 5.5 hours — the longest of the three. Load it up with racks and fenders, and it can handle both a work commute and a weekend bikepacking trip.

Why pick the Tero? If your daily riding mixes in dirt, rough paths, or you want an e-bike that doubles as a light touring/adventure rig, the Tero gives you the confidence to explore further.

3. How Buying from Specialized Works

One of the things I love about buying from Specialized is that you don’t have to deal with a giant box showing up on your doorstep. The process is streamlined and bike-shop supported:

Here’s how it’s worked for me (every time — I’ve bought four Specialized bikes this way):

  1. Order online
Choose your model and size at Specialized.com. During checkout you’ll pick a local dealer.

  2. Delivery to shop
The bike usually arrives at your chosen shop in under a week.

  3. Pro build & setup
The dealer assembles the bike, dials it in, and calls you when it’s ready. There’s no packaging waste, no at-home assembly, and Specialized covers the build — included in the price of the bike.

  4. Pickup & tips
You head to the shop, get a professionally built bike, and usually some insider advice from mechanics who live and breathe Specialized.

For me, that shop is Bike Farm Austin, and I can’t recommend them enough. They’ve handled every Specialized build I’ve bought or specced (four and counting), and the experience has always been excellent. This includes identifying and replacing a part on my last e-bike that was damaged in shipping!

4. Wrap-Up

RDS is all about race-day performance — but everyday riding matters just as much. The Globe Haul keeps our family moving, and these other Specialized options make it easier to turn commutes, errands, and school runs into ride time.
