Why I Like It

These things are insanely relaxing. It’s like a perfectly firm massage without the awkward “too much pressure” moments. I took them with me to Moab Rocks this year—I’d throw them on post-shower, lay on the bed, set the time to an hour, and usually fall asleep. I use them most evenings during big training blocks while rehydrating and watching TV. It’s become part of my post-ride ritual.

They’re also crazy easy to use. Just zip them on, press start, and chill out. Way more convenient than foam rolling or massage guns, which take effort and technique. These just work—and they’ve definitely helped me keep the legs turning during stage races and heavy weeks.

Quick Specs

  • Adjustable compression intensity (I always use max though)
  • Very quiet — I usually watch TV while using them
  • Controller w. internal battery (TSA requires it in carry-on)
  • Packs down surprisingly well when deflated
  • Excellent build quality — mine’s going strong after a year

In My Setup

  • These live behind the couch, ready for use daily.
  • I bring them to every stage race and most big events — controller in carry-on, boots in checked bag.
  • I’ll usually run a 60-minute session in the evening.
  • They’re perfect for recovery between race stages, but I use them weekly at home too.
Using Normatecs on the couch watching Better Call Saul

A very serious recovery session in progress — Better Call Saul optional.

Tips

  • Use the MAX setting if you’re comfortable — it takes a little getting used to but feels amazing once you’re used to it.
  • If the control unit feels loud, drop it behind the couch to dampen the noise.
  • Zip them up while lying flat and fully relaxed for best comfort.
  • Roll the boots up like a sleeping bag to save space when storing.

Who It’s For

Racers and serious riders who want an easy, no-effort recovery tool that works. If you’ve got stage races, back-to-back race weekends, or heavy training blocks, these boots can help your legs keep up. They’re a luxury—but one that pays for itself quickly compared to massage costs.
